Trusting "claimed watts" without a derating curve. Fixtures designed for 25°C labs quietly lose 15–25% output in a 45°C Gulf night. Demand the derating curve and test samples at elevated temperature.
Coastal projects with inland specs. Salt air corrodes standard hardware within months. For any site within ~10 km of the coast, require 80–100μm coating, 316 stainless steel hardware and a 500–1,000 hour salt spray report.
No spare parts or after-sales plan. When a driver fails during the defect liability period, who replaces it, who pays for the crane, and how fast? Negotiate a 2–3% spare-kit policy and a documented RMA process before signing.
Skipping sample testing and third-party verification. Test the sample in your own lab or a third-party lab: lumen output, power consumption, IP rating, thermal behavior. One sample batch costs a fraction of one field failure.
Mismatched color temperature. 5700K looks aggressive in residential districts and creates glare complaints; 3000K reduces the perceived brightness that CCTV and drivers expect on highways. Stay in the 4000K–5000K band unless your consultant specifies otherwise.
Unrealistic lead times. A national tender order cannot materialize in two weeks. Confirm production capacity, sea freight duration (25–40 days to GCC ports) and certification lead times in the contract — and add a buffer.
